San Diego Comic-Con: The Wonderful World of AnimationOn the last day of the Con, The Wonderful World of Animation had a huge signing event with Arlene Sorkin (Harley Quinn), Kevin Conroy (Batman) and Mark Hamill (Joker). It goes without saying that the lines were huge!
Looks like that line goes on forever!
The Wonderful World of Animation carries animation cels from all sorts of shows such as the Simpsons, Disney movies and other popular cartoons. Of course most importantly they have excellent cels from Batman, Superman, Justice League, and Batman Beyond. The quality and professionalism of the cels go beyond words. They even have a special frame guy who?ll make frames appropriate to the cel. For example, I saw a cel of some Batman villains stealing, and the frames contained loose dollar bills, giving the illusion that the bills were floating in the air.
All sorts of people came dressed for the event!
I spoke with Debbie Weis and she gladly explained to me the background of the company. Since the WB stores closed, WB has decided to allow certain galleries to sell the cels that those stores used to carry. Making the Wonderful World of Animation one of the few places that you can get authentic cels direct from Warner Bros. If you want a Justice League cel?none exist because Justice League is animated digitally. Instead, they sell production drawings, which are then reproduced to cels and hand painted. Usually these will have a production number limited to one.

The people there are perfectly willing to work with you and find the cel that you want. Their website allows for special orders and people are extremely friendly. Debbie managed to talk to me even after a rough day and she was obviously very tired. On the last day of the signing, I had arrived and had just planned to take pictures of the event. I handed Debbie my camera and hoped she?d just take a picture of the three so I could cover the event here, since I knew she was extremely busy. Instead of just taking the picture, she managed to jam me into it, and I got a picture with Mark Hamill! I was totally shocked and have to give a big thank you to Debbie.
Seriously though, if you?re considering purchasing any sort of artwork relating to any of the shows, I?d recommend you contact the Wonderful World of Animation. I?m finally out of college myself and after I get a few paychecks, I know they?ll be getting a call from me. Based on my experiences with them at the Con, I?d have to say that these have to be some of the best people you can work with.
