Paradise Lost

Original Airdate: January 29, 2002

Short Summary:

After retrieving the Key, the League tries to investigate exactly who Felix Faust is. They discover that Felix wants to use the Key to open the gates of Hell and allow Hades to come back into the world. Originally, Hippolyta, Wonder Woman?s mother, had been duped into helping Hades in his originally plan for world conquest. As punishment, the Gods punished Hippolyta by forcing her to safeguard the Key and the gate to Hell.

The League decides, they can?t give the Key to Faust but will use it as bait to free the amazons. When the approach Faust he manages to take Hippolyta hostage and use the key to free Hades. Hades kills Faust and begins to attack. The League has to battle an army of the undead, before Wonder Woman forces Hades back into hell and closes the gate shut. Faust?s death diffuses the spell on the Amazons, and Paradise Island is returned to normalcy.

Hippolyta is grateful for the League and her daughter?s help but she is forced to banish Diana from Paradise Island for brining men onto the island.

Review:
Paradise Lost was a fairly good episode, but it seemed like Faust wasn?t really a worthy enemy of the League. However, Faust does exploit the League?s greatest weakness, magic. Still at the point where Faust has the Key and the League merely walks to catch up to him seems ridiculous. Hades and his army was a worthy opponent of the league, but it seemed as if the League was perfectly capable of preventing Faust from freeing the dark lord.

Otherwise though, the episode had a fairly good plot and amazing action. I especially liked the fight between Wonder Woman and Superman. I?ve seen a lot of people complain that there?s no way Wonder Woman could have beat Superman. However, remember that Superman found out about the ruse before Wonder Woman did so he was certainly holding back. Additionally, Wonder Woman is probably one of the few DC heroes that could actually put up a fight against Superman.

I?d have liked to see Faust get another chance instead of killing him off, but hopefully they?ll move onto bigger and badder villains.
